Scythian Lamb is an animated sci-fi horror short drawing inspiration from Western European Medieval history and myth. Rival farm owners Meabh and Conall venture into the forest behind their village after a series of strange wolf attacks. Forced to work together in order to slay the wolf, Meabh and Conall must follow a trail of animal corpses deeper and deeper into the woods all while maintaining their composure towards one another. As the bodies pile up and tensions rise, the two farmers discover the true nature of the deadly forest around them, and must figure out a way to escape with their lives.
For my capstone film, I explore ideas of history and mythology within the context of my own experience with femininity, obsession, and sense of being. Using various 2D and 3D compositions, I am applying the skills I’ve acquired here at the Art Institute and in my past internship in order to create a completely realized and rendered piece of media.
Scythian Lamb takes place in 12th century, precolonial Ireland, in a small fictional village to the North. The character designs take into account what I could find out about daily life in 1100’s Europe. In doing the research for this piece I explored myths and legends from Medieval Europe, as well as the Black Plague, peasant life, druidic religion in Ireland, and the colonization of Ireland in the early Medieval era. I take a lot of influences from folk horror (VIY, The Witch, Belladonna of Sadness, Lapvona) as well as from legend (Judith and Holofernes, the Barometz/Scythian Lamb).
Thank you for the continued interest and support for my film!
