Adolfo Ruiz Tosar

Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts Degree

My MFA work at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago is informed by notions of entanglement. Building on contemporary art and philosophy that addresses this idea, I have created projects intended for participatory engagement while also considering how relational ways of knowing may be visualized through drawing, mind mapping and malleable structures.

In addition to my studies at SAIC I am involved in the co-development of socially-engaged projects that bring together art, design and qualitative inquiry—much of this work revolves around human ecology, cultural memory, and evolves gradually through relationship-building with members of various communities. Since 2012 I have been honored to be part of an ongoing creative collaboration on Tłı̨chǫ Dene lands (Northwest Territories)—this collaboration has led to the translation of regional oral history into animated film. I am Associate Professor of Design at MacEwan University in Edmonton (Amiskwacîwâskahikan), Canada.
