Scout Cartagena

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Sculpture

Scout Cartagena is a multidisciplinary artist whose work delves into themes of memory, heirlooms, and chronic illness, particularly within Blackness. Utilizing mediums such as glass, printmaking, and installation, Cartagena explores the concept of the body as an heirloom- a vessel of personal and collective history- challenging the systemic barriers that have historically denied Black and Brown individuals the freedom to possess and preserve.

Through a practice that intertwines personal narrative and broader social critique, Scout Cartagena illuminates the enduring impact of white supremacy on the ownership of cultural and bodily legacies, while advocating for recognition and reclamation through making.
