Adam Lehl

Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling

Adam Lehl (1978) is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, photographer, and collector of sorts. Prior to pursuing his Master of Arts from SAIC’s Art Therapy and Counseling program, Adam was a Typographer and Type designer living and working in Europe (Germany, Spain). Adam began collecting handwritten alphabets in 1999. After voluntarily entering drug and alcohol treatment in 2014, what started as inspiration for Adam turned into a somatic meditation and fellowship of sorts, entitled The Alphabet Collector Project. To hold himself accountable in his new found sobriety and to process his divorce, Adam got his commercial drivers license (CDL) and drove 146,000 miles across the United States, capturing over 9,000 photographs. Adam enrolled in SAIC’s Low-Residency Master’s program before the pandemic and transferred to the Art Therapy and counseling program a year later. Adam is currently in his second year as clinical intern with The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.
