Berenice Vargas Bravo

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Painting and Drawing

Berenice Vargas Bravo (born in Mexico City) earned a BFA and MFA in Fine Arts from Beaux-Arts de Nantes, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Université de Nantes (France). She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Painting and Drawing at SAIC.

Her artistic practice primarily focuses on large-format figurative painting, characterized by a graphic style and a high-contrast palette. Through her paintings, Berenice seeks to make visible the contradictions and tensions that shape human relationships. In her scenes, ordinary characters are transformed into archetypes whose roles fluctuate, generating ambiguity and multiple interpretations of the work. Some of her paintings depict absurd, fictional legendary episodes, while others represent more intimate scenes where mischievous characters dare to do things they shouldn’t. Through this, she aims to reconcile the viewer with their own contradictions and expose the underlying structural problems that silently shape our world.
