Charlotte Saylor

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Painting and Drawing

Charlotte Saylor is an artist and is pursuing an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Originally from NJ, she received a BA in Art Studio at the University of California, Davis in 2019. In 2020, she moved to Florence, Italy for an artist residency at Santa Reparata International School of Art where she began painting with unconventional materials such as wine and olive oil. This mode of experimentation accelerated in her practice at SAIC, where she is currently a second-year graduate student. She has exhibited her artwork in shows in and around the Chicago area, including a solo show at Art City, and group shows at ARC Gallery, Union Street Gallery, Howling Pages and SAIC Galleries. Her practice consists of collecting, composing, and painting. She first forages for discarded objects such as tinfoil or cassette tapes, arranging them in unexpected ways while still allowing for their previous forms to linger. The color, texture, and rhythm of the paint, whether it’s oil, acrylic, casein, or encaustic, elevates these objects by framing and holding them with care.
