Life, to me, has always been largely enigmatic and all existence has felt inherently imperfect. My paintings emerge from a yearning to approach the essence of being amidst this uncertainty. Through reflections on light beckoning from darkness, nonlinear time, and ambiguous boundaries, I explore the peace and the quite of solitude that can be kept the essence in my practice.
The subjects in my paintings still long to breathe, no matter how erased, evaporated, or contaminated. I carefully gaze at them. The unease of existence is captured through subtle shifts in light and shadow, temperature, and air. They emerge and vanish infinitely with the blurred boundaries and layers of paint. In turn, they slowly discover their presence. Yet these anonymous figures never fully reveal themselves, shrouded in darkness, maintaining a quiet distance.
The experiences of my inner world extend outward. My relationship with myself, people, and landscape, familiar or unfamiliar, etches itself into my mind. Through my paintings, I reconstruct the scene, uncovering light from the shadow and shadow resting serenely within the light. This process creates a new encounter, an attempt to explore an unfathomable life.
