Maria D Rodriguez is completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a specialization in animation at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her platform proficiency encompasses Autodesk Maya, Adobe After Effects, Procreate, and Flipaclip. She has engaged in various complementary artistic mediums, including drawing, writing, voice acting and painting. She has copyrighted over 50 characters, authored more than 50 2D short stories, and published 8 children books. Maria’s primary focus is on dragons, concentrating her 2D animation for children. Maria intends to pursue a Master’s of Fine Arts in Animation; her objective is to produce her original animated cartoon series, The Rage Monsters, as an entry point into cartoon television.

Artist Statement
I have been mastering my artistic abilities and creating art for as long as I can recall. Contemplating art involves considering others, ethical principles, and fairness. It’s about perceiving the world’s expression differently and thinking of those who lack the means to express themselves as I do. As an artist, I engage in and appreciate various activities, aiming to grow in my craft. I’ve determined my artistic direction, which presents a challenge but offers the reward of inspiration. My journey as an artist has been a progression of drive, encounters, and education. This evolution spans from my coursework in Art, Photography, and Computer Design to my creation of Rage Birds—a project influenced by Angry Birds. It also includes my cartoon series Rage Monsters, which incorporates elements from Greek Mythology and Zodiac Signs, along with videos, some GIFs, and Cube Figurines. All of these experiences contribute to my aspiration of becoming a professional artist. I aim to connect with a community of supportive, constructive artists and encourage others to express their artistic voices. My work represents an ongoing series of experiments, with a focus on 2-D animation for children—a demographic that we all continue to belong to, regardless of our age or life experiences.
