Pedro Montilla Piñeros

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Painting and Drawing

Pedro Montilla (Bogotá, 1997) is a Colombian painter with a BFA from the Universidad de los Andes and an MFA candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He works between the city of Chicago and the Altiplano cundiboyacense in Colombia. His work is based on the exploration of painting as a mystical being, where science and magic converge in a continuous conversation. Montilla uses fique fabric, a material that connects his artistic practice with his Andean roots, creating landscapes, scenes and abstractions that reflect an amalgam between his internal states and his living experiences.

He has presented his work in solo exhibitions such as “Estudios para un horizonte inestable” and “La palabra casa tiene dos techos” at Polícroma Galería in Medellín, and has participated in various group exhibitions at institutions such as Chili Art Projects in London, the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, SGR Galería and ARTBO in Bogotá.

Montilla has been awarded scholarships such as the New Artist Society and the Second Year International Graduate Scholarship from SAIC, among other recognitions in Colombia.
