Philip Karjeker
Philip Karjeker (he/they) is a queer, multiracial, gender non-conforming artist and cultural worker based in Houston. A painter and image maker, his work explores identity at the intersection of race, gender, faith, and place. He holds a BA in Art History with Special Honors from the University of Texas at Austin and is pursuing an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His experience spans arts administration, consulting, and organizing, with roles at the Guggenheim, Independent Curators International, Artsy, and more. After time in London, Barcelona, and New York, he returned to Houston in 2017 to deepen his artistic practice and community work, contributing to local groups like Qollective and co-founding the queer arts organization 3 of Cups. During the pandemic, he served as an artist and liaison for Houston Arts Alliance. He currently juggles graduate studies and works at the Menil Collection.
