Chicago-based artist Rebecca Rose Grant’s creative journey is diverse and vibrant, much like the city she calls home. Rebecca’s artistic exploration encompasses a wide array of media, including readymades, illustration, installation, and photography.
Through her distinctive and humorous approach to art, Rebecca’s work weaves a tapestry of wit and concept. Her artistry hinges on the unexpected, transforming everyday objects into whimsical narratives while taking a decidedly lo-fi approach to artmaking.
Rebecca’s readymades infuse life into the ordinary. Her illustrations provide a glimpse into her perspective on identity. Her photography captures the world through a lens of quirkiness, highlighting the subtle humor in everyday moments.

My artistic practice explores the intersections of gender and transness through a multidisciplinary approach. I engage with epistemological frameworks to question and redefine identity. Drawing on feminist critique, trans phenomenology, and contemporary art practices, I employ mediums such as photography, performance, readymades, and mixed media to challenge binary gender constructs and emphasize their fluidity. My artistic work rigorously interrogates the complex intersections of gender and trans identity through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary framework. I strive to critically question and reconstruct the concept of identity through more abstract forms and pop cultural means. A combination of feminist critique, trans phenomenology, and contemporary artistic methods informs my practice. Through these modalities, I aim to subvert binary gender paradigms and illuminate the understanding of gender as a fluid spectrum of possibilities.

The overarching aim of my practice is to embody and articulate the lived experiences inherent to transness, emphasizing the principles of self-definition and the dynamic interplay between physical existence, personal identity, and societal norms. Furthermore, I strive to foster an informed discourse surrounding the continually evolving understanding of gender across diverse cultural and historical contexts. This dialogue is crucial for promoting a more nuanced comprehension of the complexities of gender identity in contemporary settings.
