Seunghee Lee
Seunghee Lee (b. 1996) is a ceramic artist and painter from Seoul, South Korea. She creates art inspired by sea life, exploring memories and emotions tied to fish markets she visited as a child. Her work shows both joy and discomfort—just like how fish are displayed fresh but lifeless. Using ceramics, she mimics their glossy, wet texture, turning them into symbols of hidden emotions and struggles. Through humor and irony, she questions identity, death, and how people hide their true feelings. Her works include mostly sea creatures trapped inside fish tanks and disposable container boxes, plastic wraps. They invite viewers to see beyond appearances and think about death what is unseen. She received a BFA in Ceramics from Ewha Womans University and will receive her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2025.
