Aimée Suárez Netzahualcóyotl is a Mexican interdisciplinary artist using her personal stories as material to explore form and structure in visual narrative. Her pieces expand across performance, video, installation, and books. She attended SAIC’s MFA as a New Artist scholar. In Mexico City, she studied at SOMA Educational Program and received a BFA from the Faculty of Arts and Design at UNAM. Her solo shows have been held in Mexico City and Monterrey, the most recent being “MARTES” at Biquini Wax, 2025. She has participated in several group exhibitions and performance presentations internationally including “What makes the heavy cloud release (to) rain” at No Nation Art Lab (Chicago, 2025), “Asunto de familia” at La Verdi (Mexico City, 2022), “ARTEMERGENTE, Bienal Nacional Monterrey” at Centro de las Artes (Monterrey, 2019) and “Transcultural Emancipation”, at FLUC (Vienna, 2018).

From 2018-2021, I illustrated what I understood from the German novel “Die Königin schweigt” (Droschl, 2017) by Austrian writer Laura Freudenthaler. Then I hired Nina Fiocco, artist and curator, to write a text interpreting my drawings to create a new story investigating the creative possibilities of not fully understanding something and expanding the notion of translation.

Visual account of the experience of a Mexican-Cuban couple as they navigate the application for a Family Unity Visa towards residency in Mexico. Through constructed photography, documents and screenshots, the reader can piece together fragments of this bureaucratic adventure fraught with technological failures, corruption and transnational love.

In this permanent exhibition hosted online, beings with lungs try to survive in a mental park where anxiety reigns. This was the first time I explored unfolding a narrative piece in space.

My artistic work is autobiographical. I use my personal stories as material to delve into family, interiority, transformation, and language. Within every project, I create a system/playfield to digest what I am going through in my life: learning a new language, filing for a visa, coping with an anxiety attack. Formally, I have explored the possibilities of visual narrative through variations on a theme, literary figures and translation. To date, my work has manifested as photography, painting, drawing, performance, video, installation and books. All of my projects emerge through conversation and collaboration with others, from the research and production stages to inviting other people to operate the playfields I create.
