Avery Dixon

Post Baccalaureate

Avery Dixon is a ceramic artist from Columbia, Missouri, whose work examines contemporary Christianity through research, material exploration, and lived experience. Raised as a pastor’s daughter, her practice is shaped by a close familiarity with religious texts, ritual, and visual culture, as well as her current position in a limbo of sorts with her faith. Drawing from theological writings, historical Christian imagery, and observations of present-day religious discourse, her work investigates the tensions between belief, politics, and morality. Working primarily in clay, she uses its malleable and fragile nature to explore faith as ritual, puzzle, and institution. She is currently completing a post-baccalaureate program in ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
