Master of Arts in Visual and Critical Studies

Mexican-born, Chicago-based new media artist, writer, and soon-to-be visual criticologist (’26), Cath traces the fragile entanglements of memory, care, and the violences that move quietly through cross-border and intimate spaces. Their material inquiries have centered on digital jacquard weaving, positioning the loom not only as a tool but also as a co-conspirator—one that reveals how stories can be unraveled, rethreaded, and written again.
Through their ongoing project Threads, Cath turns toward the inheritances of intergenerational harm, imagining gentler forms of justice shaped by tenderness, attention, and the slow work of healing.
