Duolin Fang

Master of Fine Arts in Fashion, Body and Garment

Duolin Fang is a fashion designer born in Dongguan, China, currently based between Chicago and Guangzhou. He received his BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology and is currently pursuing his MFA in Fashion, Body, and Garment at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

His practice explores the relationship between the body, identity, and instinct through sharp silhouettes and hybrid material constructions. Drawing inspiration from natural defense systems such as animals, plants, and insects. He creates garments that resemble protective skins or organic armor, emphasizing boundary, presence, and individuality within contemporary society.

Fang’s recent work develops the concept of “Archive,” examining how visual memory is inherited and reassembled through fashion. His garments function as living archives, preserving childhood images of transformation, animality, and structured dress, and reconfiguring them through material, color, and form.
