Jen LaMastra
Jen LaMastra is an interdisciplinary artist working in fiber, sculpture, installation, and film. Informed by her years as a hairstylist—a career rooted in listening, service, and storytelling—Jen’s practice grew from these intimate exchanges, shaping a commitment to elevating craft as a tool for care. Her work uplifts the lived experiences of women while resisting dominant cultures of silencing and harm.
LaMastra is the instigator of The Liberty Crochet Mural, a nationwide fiber protest mobilizing hundreds of artists in response to the Dobbs decision. To date, 29 sister murals have been launched in communities across the United States, appearing in government buildings, rallies, libraries, and community centers.
Before relocating to Chicago as a Visionary Scholar to pursue her MFA in Fashion, Body, and Garment, Jen was known in Portland for hosting pop-up galleries, organizing comedic dinner parties, and transforming living rooms into temporary cultural spaces.
