Monet-Chanel Khanyahl is a filmmaker, writer, and photographer from Oakland, CA, currently residing in Chicago, IL. She received her BFA in Film and Media studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and her MFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work centers around Black identity, queerness, femininity, familial structures, and subcultures. As a documentarian, she is interested in exploring her own world; to her, there is no separation between life and practice. Her process is rooted in lived experiences, allowing vulnerability to guide the stories she tells.
