Shravani Pawar is an artist and animator who is passionate about creating stories that resonate and inspire. Over the years, she has explored storytelling through dynamic sketching and creative experimentation. Her love for visual world-building and bringing drawings to life on screen draws her to the art of 2D animation. This passion for creating meaningful stories through the art of moving images is extended into her thesis film, “I Touched the Ocean Floor.” Developed from story to final animation, the short film presents an environmental, conscious journey of inner reflections on the biology of the vast blue.

I Touched the Ocean Floor is a 6-minute-long, 2D animated short film that starts on a mundane morning of the Marine Biology class, which turns into curiosity for Aayra, and she decides to dive deep into her marine biology notes to explore the science of the deep sea.
Narrating her way from the colonies of corals to the deep hydrothermal vents, while breathing into some ocean creatures like the cartilaginous manta ray or the bioluminescent jellyfish, Aayra’s mind also travels through distractions of fragmented thoughts, for instance, the tempting idea of a deep-frying karanji, or the memory of playing Tabla, a traditional percussion instrument. The story takes a climactic turn when her beautiful picture of deep-sea life is destroyed by a man-made force—deep-sea mining, causing her to struggle to make her way up to the surface.
Being a human herself, can she survive that destruction, stated as a mere act of scientific development, not just in the ocean, but also in her present day, remains the question.
