Sofía Paredes Vélez (b. 1994) is a woman interdisciplinary artist, born in Bogotá, Colombia. Through textile, glass, video and installation, her work explores narratives related to transitions (and the loss and ruptures that occur in these shifts) —while also focusing on the aftermath of change— and in the urges to rebuild.
Her work is interested on how, in those rebuilt spaces, there can be echoes and phantoms that transpire and appear in the ruin. On how, as a response to the rupture, intimate acts of caring can grow and sprout.

Likewise, her work also looks to reflect on the visceral, non-rational need of creating bridges of re-connection with the nebulous, with the past, with the unphysical, mixing written phrases and sculptural materials that intentionally resemble vagueness and haze. Equally, there is a constant referencing to symbolic charged narratives: myths and creatures that permeate, directly or indirectly, the materiality. Her work invites us into the half-erased past and into the re-building of intimate spaces that are leaking and charged with heated care.
