Sylvan Talavera
Sylvan Talavera is a Midwest-based musician, performer, and composer who currently focuses on computer music and instrument building, but in the past has worked on graphic scores, acoustic chamber music, and group improvisation. His work often functions as a form of sound studies, and revolves around feedback systems, the somaticism of sound, sonic categorizations of “acoustic” and “synthetic” sounds, the inner sounds of electronic instruments and software, improvisation, alternative tuning systems, and indeterminate electroacoustic performance. It makes use of hand built, repurposed, misused, or altered electronics, and programming, and pulls from a variety of sonic aesthetics, including noise, Detroit techno, computer music, ambient, jazz, house, drone, medieval European music, American folk, and plunderphonics.
