Yan Wang

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Printmedia

Yan Wang (b.1998) is a Chinese artist currently based in Chicago & New York.
While trained in traditional printmaking, beyond images living off paper, she expands an understanding of forms into a practice with clay.
Growing up as a Chinese woman under the everchanging social circumstances that shaped her home society, Wang’s artworks are often lined with the theme of diaspora, navigating the internal landscape of cultural memory and feminist politics. She harnesses her artistic identity with deep passion and endearment of crafts.

Yan Wang holds a BFA in Pringmaking from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and is expected to earn her MFA degree in May, 2026 from SAIC. Wang has participated in multiple exhibitions nationwide, and her printed animation has been screened in media events like the Sweaty Eyeballs International Animation Festival. She has also worked as ceramics workshop tutor in Brooklyn, and runs a small zine&artist book collective called Open Lid.
