Haley Kim

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Printmedia

Haley Kim is a Chicago- and Irvine-based artist specializing in monoprints, artist books, risoprints, sculptures, and ceramics. Her work delves into themes of dreams, memory, landscapes, virtual spaces, and the organic patterns found in nature, crafting abstract visual narratives through diverse mediums.

Haley’s practice bridges tactile and visual experiences. Her monoprints and risoprints showcase intricate mark-making and abstract image construction, while her artist books take on three-dimensional forms that invite viewers to interact with the pages and engage directly with her narratives. Her sculptures and ceramics further expand these stories by emphasizing materiality and spatial presence.

Central to Haley’s work are themes exploring the boundaries between dreams and memory, the coexistence of order and chaos, and the interplay between virtual spaces and natural patterns. She often draws inspiration from the growth patterns of slime mold, using its unpredictable movements as a metaphor for life’s complexity. By translating these behaviors into visual compositions and sculptural works, Haley challenges audiences to reconsider the definitions of ideal and distorted worlds.

With an experimental and multimedia approach, Haley creates immersive spaces that encourage viewers to engage with the dynamic interplay of structure, unpredictability, and transformation.
