Yukun (Chloe) Ba
Yukun Chloe Ba is a Chicago-based artist and designer from China whose practice centers on visual communication and artist’s books. Through experimental book structures and process-driven approaches, she explores how narrative can unfold as a tactile and spatial experience, transforming fleeting moments into physical form.
Many of her works begin by questioning how a subject is defined. By testing the limits of these definitions, she explores what exists in between, states that resist clear categorization. Through manipulating text, image, and material form, she visualizes these ambiguous intersections, challenging fixed understandings of familiar forms and ideas.
In her ongoing exploration of the book as an object, she works from multiple perspectives, including structure, material, and function, to examine how a book can be read and experienced. This approach pushes her work toward a threshold where it no longer fully functions as a book, but begins to operate as something else, at times approaching sculpture.
