Kelsie H

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Printmedia

Originally from Columbus, Ohio; Kelsie received a BFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015. Kelsie is interested in exploring the tension that exists between expectations and defiance of unspoken rules. By drawing inspiration from vintage gardening books and personal family photos they’re queering and re-contextualizing the performed roles of gender and domesticity. Following the influences of glitch art and street art, Kelsie seeks to re-orchestrate the residues and remains that are left behind on surfaces by leaning into mis-registration and moiré patterns created by overlapping halftones. By layering marks and pattern they’re shifting the narrative and creating a new language from the distortion. Kelsie is currently in the process of creating a body of work that spans painting, printmaking and bookmaking.
