True Life Novelettes

From 1977 to early 1985, my work involved issues of sexuality, gender, and autobiography. Although these concerns continue to be my primary focus, certain life situations shifted my parameters for seven years, from 1985-92. In April of ’85, my mother committed suicide. When I finally started to work again after more than a year of incapacitation, I began to comprehend how the cultural ideologies that for years had obsessed my work were in fact the reason for her life long self doubt and eventual death.
