Desperado is documentary within a pseudo-documentary (or vice versa) chronicling the unexpected seduction and year long interaction between a university professor (the artist) and a former truck driver from Louisiana.

Filmmaker Jennifer Reeder was advised by Barbara DeGenevieve throughout her MFA program at SAIC. Inspired by an essay by Laura Kipnis on female desire and male disgust (“Lust and Disgust”) that was assigned by DeGenevieve during their first semester together, White Trash Girl was Reeder’s thesis film. Reeder likens her main character to DeGenevieve’s unruly temperament—provocative and serious, yet joyous.
